Pac-Man Can’t Win Against Zombie Ghosts

Poor realistic-ish Pac-Man. He never saw Inky coming up behind him before it was too late. Who knew that when one of the ghosts finally caught our beloved arcade hero, they were zombies? Talk about a <strike>cherry</strike> twist in that story. Whoever the artist is (please email us using our contact form so we can give credit), thank you for the nightmares of brain nom’ing zombie ghosts, whose only weakness is power-up dots at each corner of the map. Oh look, there’s one. You’re mine, Clyde! Muahahhaha! Click the image for the full sized version.

Fare Thee Well, Limewire

May.13, 2010, under Computers & Video Games, The Interweb

Limewire, which used to be popular for peer-to-peer illegal downloading, is quickly on the way out according to a New York judge who found the company and owner, Mark Gorton, guilty of copyright infringement and inducing copyright infringment. Here is the excerpt from source:

“…U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood of the Southern District of New York found its operators liable for copyright infringement. The ruling came after the RIAA filed a claim that Lime Group and its founder Mark Gorton committed copyright infringement, induced copyright infringement, and engaged in unfair competition based on the copyrighted content found on the peer-to-peer network.

“The evidence demonstrates that [LimeWire] optimized LimeWire’s features to ensure that users can download digital recordings, the majority of which are protected by copyright,” Wood said in her 59-page decision. “And that [LimeWire] assisted users in committing infringement.”

The obvious next step in the RIAA’s plan is to request (and receive) a preliminary injunction to shut down LimeWire’s file-sharing aspect. As it stands, that may very well happen within the next few days.”

So, I guess to those who download illegally, tisk tisk (nudge nudge, hint hint, wink wink). I suppose you’ll have to find some other way to download the overrun of viri, malware, trojans, and other hijacking crap that’s on that god forsaken program. Maybe try something like, I don’t know, to rents? Get it? I’m talking about torrents people. My god, it’s like I have to spell everything out for you.

Am I The Only One Who Still Thinks The iPad Is A Failure?

I don’t normally like to write articles about hot topics, but with the release of the iPad, plus yesterday’s Apple 4.0 OS keynote, am I the only one who still thinks the iPad is a complete failure? Am I really alone on this, and has all the awesome rumors that didn’t come to be fallen by the wayside? I remember when it was leaked that the iPad would run basically the iPhone OS, and people were PISSED. Reading over sources at Gizmodo, TechCrunch, dvice, etc., pretty much the only thing covered over the last week and a half has been Apple/iPad related, and they are all singing praise. Is it just me who has a sinking feeling in their stomach that thinks Apple contacted all these sites and said “Hey, give us a good review since we poured money into the R&D on this, and we’ll send you a bunch of free shit.” Maybe I am the only one. Maybe I’m the minority or just naieve (to be honest, I haven’t used the iPad, but I own an iPhone, so that’s pretty much the same thing, right? Just bigger?) in this. Maybe I’m missing something about the iPad that everyone else just “gets”. I remember months ago the rumor mill going around on how this was going to revolutionize the industry, and how it’s going to be this awesome little thing you can pack around and do everything on. What Apple did wrong, and what would have changed everything, is put the iPhone/iTouch OS on the iPad. It should have been Leopard, with all the functionality of the regular OS, just using your finger instead of a mouse. I suppose a lot of this talk is for the purpose of saturating the marketplace readers with discussion about it, which obviously, since I’m writing about it, has worked. Oh well. I still won’t be buying one. I’ll just keep my Macbook Pro and do everything the iPad can’t. Got an opinion? Discuss below.

Pixels Short Film Destroys New York, 1×1 Block At A Time

This short film directed by Patrick Jean is pretty awesome. For those who grew up in the time of Donkey Kong, Tetris, Pong, and Space Invaders, you’ll love the nostalgia feel to it. For you young kids, just sit there and watch it. Your attention span is probably long enough to get you into the 20-30 second mark. The Tetris event is by far my favorite.

Stay Classy With A Gold Plated Xbox360 Or PS3

If you have absolutely zero taste and think it’s super important to get your “bling” on in all areas of your life, even while you’re sitting at home playing video games, this might just be for you. You’ll need $5,000 US to buy it, and that’s just the 24k gold base model. It all goes up from there when you can customize it with diamonds or precious stones or rare metals. I can’t help but wonder how long it’s going to take for one of these to RROD on a buyer. I hear Flava Flav is going to buy one and not even play games on it. He’s just going to hang it around his neck instead of a clock. Not a Microsoft fanboy? Clicky the title for a picture of the PS3 version.

Funeral Being Held Today For Internet Explorer 6 (IE6)

Mar.04, 2010, under Computers & Video Games, The Interweb, Web & Graphic Design/Development

Today at 7 PM MST (Mountain Standard Time), a funeral will be held in Colorado for Internet Explorer 6. Here is an excerpt from the site and gives details how this moment came to be:

Internet Explorer Six, resident of the interwebs for over 8 years, died the morning of March 1, 2010 in Mountain View, California, as a result of a workplace injury sustained at the headquarters of Google, Inc. Internet Explorer Six, known to friends and family as “IE6,” is survived by son Internet Explorer Seven, and grand-daughter Internet Explorer Eight.

You see, unknown to many people, like the elderly, and.. nuns, IE6 is a horrible piece of software. Anti-aliasing bugs, severe CSS and div issues, along with the fact it was utter hell to try and supplement code when using standardized W3C compliant tags made this a blunder for Microsoft (as if they don’t do this daily anyway). I shall not miss you, IE6. May you burn in hell for eternity.

Nom nom nom. Pac-Man Candy Tastes Like WIN!

Did you know Pac-Man is 30 this year? Wow, who feels old besides me? Do you miss the more simple days of your youth, where the only concern was making it home before the street lights came on? And now, while you look back at those seemingly blissful summer days, you realize you are just an empty shell owned by “the man”. It’s a sad state of affairs. Growing up sucks. But what if you could re-live some of those memories? What if YOU could chow down on some power pellets and take on the world just like that crazy yellow nom-noming son of a bitch did all those years. Today is your day my friends. Not a fan of Pac-Man and wish you could be Inky or Clyde? You can do that too! Choose Pac-Man and get your grub on some orange flavored power pellets. Choose Blinky and munch on some sour cherry ghost candies. Plus, you have the chance of getting a limited edition vulnerable blue ghost full of blue raspberry candy. Did your head just explode? Mine did. Twice.

Geekogle Plays Hide and Seek, Not Dead

Feb.10, 2010, under Computers & Video Games, The Interweb
Tags: , , , , ,

To my adored readers who frequent this site, ever clicking the refresh button hoping for an updated article, I apologize. My last post was almost a month ago, but I wanted to post this quick update to let you know to not shed any tears, for Geekogle will return, hopefully sooner and better than ever. The truth of the matter is, this site is not ran by a big corporate organization who has a team of writers, analysts, and researchers. It’s just one guy (for now). With that in mind, life outside the toy box is crazy busy. Besides this site, I work full time and go to school part time. This term especially, has kept me more busy than I could have ever imagined. Since my dear Geekogle site certainly sits in the lower 5 of my priorities, it has suffered in the form of neglect.

However, Geekogle is not dead, nor do I plan on closing shop like so many other blogs and sites these days. Geekogle will live on, it will survive, if only in a state of hide and seek for awhile. Thanks for visiting, come back often. Who knows when something new will pop up.

Nintendo Themed Soap Smells Like Geek

Dec.08, 2009, under Computers & Video Games, Web & Graphic Design/Development

These soaps have so much geekyness built into them, I’m sure seller DigitalSoap is selling them like, uh, Nintendo themed soap.. I guess. Not only are they expertly molded in the shape of a classic Nintendo controller (complete with accurately colored red/black buttons), but they are infused with.. wait for it.. Mt. Dew scented oils. I have no idea how you get a hold of Mt. Dew scented oil, but based on no knowledge whatsoever, I’m going to assume it has something to do with ‘milking’ a World of Warcraft player. You heard it here first folks. A set of four will set you back $34, which isn’t that bad if you’re like me. I shower once a year if I need it or not!

Do you often go outside in the snow and use your laptop? How about working in a cold cubicle because the guy next to you insists on having the AC on in January? Well, never fear, because now you can wear these tacky USB gloves by Thanko. Just plug these puppies into an available USB port and stay warm while the battery life of your laptop gets cut in half. But hey, at least you’ll have warm hands. You can buy them here.
