Istanbul Ice Creamery Serves Up Delicious Wizardry

Maras style ice cream is sold via street vendors and small stands in Turkey and Instanbul as both a delicious treat and a show for the masses. This unfortunate (or fortunate if you’re into some dude messing with you) Japanese student gets a front stage performance when he tries to get some ice cream from a well known vendor in the Maras Dondurmasi area of Istanbul. It sure beats paying $4 a scoop at your local ice cream shop from a nerdy, acne-ridden teenager who likes to spit in your chocolate chunk. I saw that you little punk! Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, I’ll kick your scrawny little ass!

Kill It With Fire! ‘Spiderboat’ Sails for Guam, Gets Rejected

Bound for Guam, a ship containing building materials from Korea, was told to leave port immediately and head back to Anchorage, AK after it’s cargo area was found to have thousands of spiders aboard.
The Port’s Marketing Administrator Bernadette Meno said customs officers along with the vessel’s agent boarded the ship and gave clearance to the stevedores to go on board and unlock the cargo for offloading.
It was then that thousands of the critters were found.
“When our port stevedores began offloading the insulation and beams for the housing units on the docks they discovered that hundreds of large spiders and thousands of small ones were on the cargo and on the ship,” Meno said.
The picture below was taken at the scene of the haulted offboarding. I think we’d all be better off steering the ship off the mainland, and nuking that mother into oblivion. No amount of showers are going to remove the creepy crawly feeling I’m sure all the sailors felt when they heard about the little critters demons of hell that were all up in their business.
Yucky.

This Is How The World Ends: Oil Eating Micro-organisms

CNN is reporting the end of life on earth, even if they don’t know it. You heard it here first. Osprey Biotechnics, stationed out of Florida, has suggested that BP use micro-organisms bread in laboratories to literally eat the oil on the shore lines. It should be noted that BP has been indifferent on the issue, simply stating that the solution is a “potential tool if the situation dictates”. The organisms only work in shore line scenarios, not open water, but has been proven to degrade oil residue that cannot be manually or mechanically removed. The big question, however, is what will happen when there is no oil left, and the micro-organisms discover that human blood is an equally delicious alternative. We’re all doomed! If you need to reach our staff here at Geekogle, we’ll be in our bomb shelter. Knock three times and say the secret password to get in. We have pie.
All kidding aside, we really do like this idea, and think it’d be a great way to clean up the shores that have been devastated by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Did you know you can donate to the Geekogle Fund? You sure can, and 100% of the funds donated go to a great cause.

Funday Monday: Geekogle Maintenance

We have it scheduled that we’ll be doing a little maintenance today around the site. It’s been long over due, and it’s about time we got it over with. Throughout the day and probably into this evening, you may experience some glitches or random issues with the site (primaryly with posts that have embedded YouTube videos). We actually don’t expect anything to go horribly wrong, however who knows what will happen when our developers sit down, still drunk from last weekend, and try and fix a few things. The main purpose is to change over the embed code of videos to a W3C compliant version. If you don’t know what that is, just come back tomorrow and don’t worry your pretty little head. If you do know what that is, you’ll understand why the default embed code from YouTube sucks, and why we need to change it.
Happy Monday everyone!

Amazing S. Korea ‘Human LCD Display’ Choreography

South Korea: land of the free, home of the awesome. There you go S. Korea, I just came up with your new country slogan. You can send those royalty checks to Geekogle Team, PO BOX Kickassville! But seriously, if S. Korea isn’t battling the forces of extremist dictatorship that is the crazy ass North Korean government, they are putting together ridiculously sweet choreography for their local soccer team. Using colored shirts, gloves, and synchronized movements, they put together amazing scenes for the adoring fans that resemble an LCD display. Heck, I’d go to a game just to see these guys and girls perform.
Clicky the source if you want to see the local TV station that covered the event. Being able to read Korean would be recommended. I just started clicking on random links, eventually got to some sort of CIA backdoor website.. or was it a Korean soap commercial. Either way, I used my super hacker skills and got the link for you.

May 25th Is Geek Pride Day *snort*

Today is Geek Pride Day, so.. you know.. go out and geek it up and whatnot. I’d stay and write a longer post, but we’re all going to carpool to a Lord of the Rings / Star Trek / Star Wars / Tron / LAN / Geeky Nerdfest convention in our Prius. I’m dressing up as a Teletubby! It makes perfect sense, think about it. Really mull it over, you’ll get it. Plus they said there would be cake. They better not be lying. I fell for that once. Okay, twice.
Done mulling it over? Yeah, made no sense to me either. I’ll just go naked. Check out my lightsaber!
May 25th coincides with two other, though fictional, important geeky holidays. The first celebrates Towel Day for the Douglas Adams fans, and the other is The Glorious 25th of May in the Discworld universe. Have a beer and go play some D&D for me. I call dibs on the little wizard miniature!

Hey Fatty McFatterson, Here’s A Website For You, Fat Guy

Just kidding about the fat jokes, you know I love you just the way you are. Lose It or Lose It is a website developed by two suave programer dudes who had more junk in their trunk than my grandmother who seriously puts everything in her trunk. It’s a Cadillac, so you know it’s big, too. See what I did there? No? Well you obviously don’t know my grandma then. The premise of the site is to set a weight goal of 10, 20, or 30 pounds over a 10 week period. You submit a dollar amount ($100 minimum) and for each week you make your weight goals (1, 2, or 3 pounds a week), you get to keep your money. If you don’t make your weight goals, or if you skip the weekly weigh-in, the site owners get to spend your money (as a percentage of that week’s deposited amount). The thought is that losing something like money will keep you motivated over the long haul, and not just have it fizzle out after a good week at the gym. I’d sign up myself, but I’m a lean mean green machine. I’m the Hulk baby! Rawr!

KFC Is Trying To Kill You, Introducing The Double Down

Tags: double down, gag, kfc, sick, we all gon die
Back in August, KFC tested the Double Down as a possible menu item to be released, and after all the test subjects instantly gained 40 pounds and then died, they thought it’d be a good idea to go ahead and send it out to the masses. On April 12th, you’ll be able to get your hands on your very own motherload of caloric intake. The “Double Down”, which contains bacon and cheese between two pieces of fried chicken, will go nation-wide at your local KFC. I’m guessing an influx of cardiac arrest is soon to follow. Here is the breakdown of the two types that will be released.

Holy Crap: Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” Played On Violin

Jimmy Chaos, who not only can rock the shit out of the violin, but also has a sweet last name that reminds me of Sonic the Hedgehog, is seen here playing “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley. Note to those with epilepsy, you might want to hit play and just minimize it. I take no responsibility if you fall out of your chair in a seizure attack and bite your tongue off because of this video. I suppose if that does happen, you’ll have the sweet sounds of Mr. Chaos to listen to though, which wouldn’t be so bad.

I feel very hippi-ish today. Don’t you? Let’s go out and hug trees, frolic on the grassy knoll, eat berries and grow some wicked awesome beards! Wow, now that I think about it, that actually doesn’t sound fun at all. In any case, take Plaza Cleaners in Portland Oregon. The picture below is a standard sign that was put up by the owners to promote the business and give back to the community. Oregon unemployment rates are still one of the highest in the country. It’s nice to see a local business giving back in the best way they know how, clean your filthy laundry. Seriously, I can smell it from here. If you’re in the Portland area, please click the link below to visit their website, drop some clothes off, and when you’ve got that nicely starched (light starch please) shirt, walk into that interview and I make a personal guarantee that you will get hired.*
*guarantee not valid after 01/12/2010Ha! See what I did there, I posted the date YESTERDAY! I’m so clever.
