Artist Spotlight: Adrian Grajdeanu’s Wicked Character Design

Adrian Grajdeanu is a character designer/2D artist who draws some scary ass pictures. You’ve been warned. It gave me nightmares and I can neither confirm nor deny that I peed the bed a little. It’s reminiscent of Resident Evil/Silent Hill type of model design, but definitely has it’s own vision. The full set is well worth a look, which is located in the source. Also a few more after the click. Don’t blame me if you scream in horror at your cubicle. I take no responsibility for your shenannigans.

Optical Illusion Is Angry At You, Twice

Here’s the deal. Look at the picture. What do you see? You probably see some evil and angry androgynous face on the left, and a somewhat blank stare dude on the right. Now, roll back in your computer chair to the equivalent of 5-7 steps. The images switch! The only thing I can come up with on why this happens is that the creator of the image imbued it with sorcery, like Harry Potter style. I’m going to have nightmares tonight.

Sensors to be Developed to Smell Fear

Brittish security agencies have always counted on the trained canine to sniff out illegal narcotics, explosives, and human trafficing. Now, however, they are working on two sensor systems that are able to pinpoint criminals that are in a stressful or fear enducing situations. The two sensor devices work in different ways. One uses laser absorption, the other via a portable optical fiber device. Testing is still being done, however the researchers are optimistic that this will give police a much needed advantage for the 2012 London Olympics.
These studies and devices are based off American researchers who collected underarm sweat of skydivers just before they jumped. They found that when other subjects were give the samples to smell, brain scans revealed that the subjects part of the brain used for the fear mechanism responded greatly with the samples. The only thing left, according to the British researchers, is being able to pinpoint the exact chemical released when the subject is fearful, and how to bypass other smells including deoderants and perfumes.
I’d like to be in the room when we’re able to first use this on a drug smuggler and say “I can smell your fear!”

A Humble Review of 'Paranormal Activity'

Yes, I saw it, it had scary parts, and I went to bed that night and was a little freaked out. On a scale of 5 I’d give it a 2.5. The reason I gave it a medium score is that I believe it was almost worth the 12 billion dollars I had to pay for a movie ticket these days (Wow, I totally sound like I’m a 90 year old man), but the overall movie wasn’t that awesome. 2/3 of the movie was during daytime, where mostly nothing substantial happened, but rather panic from the two main actors. The remaining 1/3 happened at night, where all the scary went down. It made spectatular use of suspense, and as the movie progressed and things got worse, there were quite a few “WTF” moments to keep me entertained. The end scene scared the bejeezus out of me, along with everyone else in the theater. Oh, and it beat out the latest version of the Saw franchise, which really isn’t anything to brag about.
Verdict: Save yourself some cash and rent it on DVD.
